Fourteen year old Dubliner Brendan Glover Junior became the fifth ‘Young Racer of the Year’ nominee when he picked up the judges votes at the August 5th & 6th Masters event at Mondello Park, following two wins in the Young Guns class.
Brendan is the fifth nominee for the 2017 award, joining Eunan McGlinchey, Rhys Irwin, Jason Lynn and Graham Whitmore in the October final, the winner of which will receive a support package for their 2018 racing, worth over €10,000, courtesy of the awards supporters, Mondello Park owner Martin Birrane, Dawn International and AJ Plumbing Supplies.
Following time spent in Motocross and Grasstracking, Brendan moved into short circuit racing in the Young Guns class in 2016, at the age of thirteen. Following a best position of second place in his first season, this year he has dominated the Young Guns, taking eleven Masters race wins and a total of sixteen wins across all championships.
Throughout the season, the Clonsilla resident teenager has consistently been the cream of the crop in the Masters Young Guns category and his performances caught the attention of the ‘Young Racer’ award judges. At the August event two wins from the two races run, finally grabbed him sufficient votes to take the nomination and put him in the running for the more than €10,000 prize.
“I was really happy when I was told I had received the nomination.”was Brendan’s reaction to the news. “I’ve been having a great season and we’ve already wrapped up two championships so far in the Young Guns class, so this just makes the season even better. I wouldn’t be racing without the support of my parents and all of my sponsors, especially Dave from Gem Workshop. and I want to thank them for all their help, along with thanking the judges and the award sponsors. The ‘Young Racer of the Year’ final in October will be another great experience for me and I’m looking forward to giving it my best shot.”
Winning the Young Racer of the Year nomination means that Brendan will receive a free entry to the next Masters event he attends, along with free testing and garage space. All nominees will be invited to attend an end of season assessment day in Mondello Park where a successor to Robert English, the 2016 winner, will be chosen.
